  he married Mary Ann Newcomb daughter of Captain George Newcomb and  Mary Hatfield, on 13 Sept 1836 in Parrsboro, N.S. She was born 11 Mar 1816, Port Grenville, N.S. anbd died 8 May 1875 in Parrsboro,

Melancoly Disaster- A letter received here yesterday states that the Parrsboro Packet " Achilles " owned by Capt. J.H. Pratt Sr. and commanded by his son Frederick was wrecked last week on a bar at the mouth of the Winsor River, and it is feared that ten persons who were on board were drowned. The following names of those on board the ill fated schooner: Frederick Pratt, Charles Doyle, Andrew Cameron, George More, John Geddis, James Pratt, William Batie, Jaes Meekins, Thomas Fulmore and Charles Webb. The vessel left Parrsboro on Thursday morning at 3 o'clock, and is supposed to have been lost the same morning. A small schooner arrived at Parrsboro on Monday with the bodies of the first four named men. Eight of the Unfortunates belonged to Parrsbor and George More and Willian Battie to Economy, Colchester Co., The packet was laden with produce.
