Much of this information was given to me by Ellen Marguerite MacIntosh Collins, she spent many hours in the archives, verifying this information to be true.

Notes:

Roderick was a carpenter by trade and went off to Boston to find work as many young men and women from Cape Breton did at that time. He met his future wife Susan Pratt who was living in Malden, Mass. with her parents Silas and Lydia Pratt. They had emmigrated from Nova Scotia several years previously. Roderick and Susan married in 1889 and had their first child Chester 1891 in Malden, their second child Catherine was born in Big Brook, Inverness Co., N.S. in 1893. I am not sure if they went back to Malden ot live between 1893 and 1898 but their third child Edward was born in 1898 also in Malden.
In April of 1894, Roderick's Uncle Ronald MacLeod deeded some 275 acres to Roderick, with the agreement that Ronald would remain in their home until he passed away.....see sources below . Roderick already had 100 acres given to him by his father Angus.
Roderick had an accident on the job he was working at, breaking several bones, including his wrists, putting an end to his career . He moved his family back to Big Brook and his forth child Donald Silas was born there in 1905. It is said that Roderick had a hand in the construction of many homes in the area.
